Welcome to a corner of the known universe concerning a dance called Argentine Tango.
My name is David and have the good fortune to be a Tango Dancer, Teacher and Performer. I’ve been involved with Tango as a discipline for 11 years, the Journey has been amazing.
Since seeing it for the first time, I have been exploring, developing, expressing and teaching Tango as a language.
Not a formal language, as Tango does not have a syntax.
Nor as a verbal language, in the dance we communicate without words.
It does have a structure that allows for a conversation to take place.
I've been exploring Argentine Tango as a way to invite this expression into one’s life, and to share ones own expression while dancing within the embrace of a partner.
The roles of Lead and Follow are not an egalitarian thing, meaning the Lead and the Follow do not have the same responsibilities. The Lead has one half of the responsibility in the dance and the Follow has the other half of the responsibility. Being the Lead and Follow communicate very different from one another. As much as night and day. Yet they converse clearly together on the same dance floor, with in an embrace.
Tango is really a very simple dance that is based in walking. Like walking down the street, talking with an acquaintance, friend or loved one.
Tango is also what takes place within the pauses and spaces of one step. Like the improvisation of each moment.
The dance of Tango is a very natural way for the body to move. There may be a faster or slower step. But a step is not hurried, rushed or contorted.
Tango is also about who you are and how you share in the dance. Like the clarity of your own voice and what is shared through your expression.
It is learning and refining these elements of the foundation within the dance that opens the space for Tango to show up and be present.
The benefit is, we get to experience this expression.
Regardless of whatever style is practiced, discovered or the one each calls their own they have earned.
Even if the embrace is open or close (which is an illusion), there is your embrace offered, that you share with each partner, within the music, and the space around you.
Argentine Tango is a simple, nice, light social dance.
It can also have a much broader and deeper meaning.
You are invited to the Dance of Argentine Tango and the Labyrinth within.
Or if you are so inclined.
To step on the Path of the Labyrinth, and Dance in its lines.
